PPM numbers are off#128

?

I have been concerned that the PPM numbers do not match up with what the actual PPM of each player really is and have selected a player and time frame to demonstrate this. I urge anyone who uses this site to double check me on this example.

Giannis Antetkounmpo played his first 5 games of the season on 12/23, 12/25, 12/27, 12/29, and 12/30. So, I set the WOWY date range from 12/23 to 12/30, since the dates are inclusive.

Giannis played exactly 157.3167 minutes over those 5 games (a number grabbed from your rotations tab and confirmed by official boxscores), which accurately shows up in the WOWY data pull as a rounded 157 for that time span. I will use this rounded number in future calculations.

His DKP outputs in each of those 5 games, which I have cross-referenced over multiple sites including your own, are 57.75, 37.75, 57.25, 30.5, and 68.75. This totals an even 252 DKP.

252 DKP / 157 minutes = 1.605 PPM. However, the PPM displayed in the fantasy tab of the WOWY pull over that time frame for Giannis (which, again, accurately pulls the 157 minutes) is 1.54 PPM.

How could these numbers possibly differ by this wide of a margin? It makes me question all of the PPM data I have been utilizing this season…

FPPM on WOWY does not account for bonus because of the way it can be segmented across multiple games.

What does that mean? I feel like some sort of disclaimer for that fact should be made visible. Or an additional column that provides PPM with bonus to differentiate the two.

I think the struggle is how would you determine when a bonus should be given when you look at people on or off the court and over several games? Because bonuses on DK are based on a single game whereas WOWY is over multiple games and segments within each game based on the query.

That is a fair point. Perhaps a column in the fantasy tab that has a running total of their double doubles and triple doubles, then? That information can be a deciding factor between two players sometimes. Because I think when running a blank query with no one specified in the on/off inputs, incorporating the bonuses is fair. But it could be done without skewing the actual PPM number for any on/off query.
